I invited to Gravesham representatives of the of the London based Heritage Lottery Fund to present to the community details on how to fund local heritage projects.
Those representing Gravesham associations were advised of the type of projects they could apply for that encompass the communities exploring and sharing their heritage. The Fund will help with projects that aim to:
● Conserve and enhance Gravesham’s heritage;
● Encourage more people to be involved in, and make decisions about their heritage; and
● Make sure that everyone can learn about, have access to and enjoy their heritage.
Representatives from Gravesham Borough Council, the Asian Welfare Society, Gravesham Heritage Association, Gravesham Historical Society attended the meeting being chaired by me.
Victor Smith of the Gravesham Historical Society is appealing to people if they have photographs depicting generations of families who have settled in Gravesham ie Italians, Hungarians, Indians, Irish and English newcomers and stories that tell the tale of how Gravesham has become the diverse society that it is today. We also need bids for more obvious projects. Victor can be contacted at: victor.defcon1@gmail.com
